4th Annual SPE Softball Tournament Info

Hi all –

Just wanted to let you know that the 4th Annual SPE softball tournament will be at Huffines Park in Richardson on April 9, 2011.  If you would like to be a part of the planning committee, we are planning to meet on January 26, 2011 – so drop me an email and I’ll put you on the list.

We will be able to have food, drinks, etc inside the complex this year, so that should work much better and make the event more social. It will be a double elimination tournament with a maximum of 16 teams. Please spread the word and get your team prepared to compete for the Champion’s Cup. In fairness of the event, we would like all players to work in the oil and gas industry or be a spouse of a player from the industry (NO RINGERS). The format will be similar to last year, which will require one female batter for every two male batters and allow no more than 7 male players in the field (3 female).

Looking forward to seeing you all on the field!

Thanks!
Sara Miller

How to Conquer Public Speaking Fears

Do any of these describe you?
□ Sick of being nervous while speaking to groups
□  Facing speaking assignments for the first time
□  Just getting by instead of making an impact
□  Tired of feeling self-conscious or uncomfortable
□  Standing to speak and your brains sitting down
□    Not sure what to do with your hands
□  Expected to make professional presentations, but never had formal training

If any of the above are important to you, then don’t miss our SPE meeting on December 7th, when Ken Bradford of The Leaders Course® training program presents How to Conquer Public Speaking Fears!

Author of the book Fearless and Persuasive Speaking (Pierce Publishers), Ken is a gifted coach and a lively and entertaining speaker. www.LeadersCourse.com.   Knowledge alone is not enough to compete in today’s economy.  You must have the communication and leadership skills employers need.

Come prepared to enjoy a fun and educational meeting and leave with practical tips you can apply immediately to strengthen your formal and informal presentations.

Who should attend? Any interested SPE members and guest

Lunch & Learn – Dec. 7 2010

Hi all –

Please make plans to attend our December 7, 2010 Lunch and Learn at Brookhaven College, EMGI, 11:45am. Ken Bradford of The Leaders Course (http://www.leaderscouse.com) will be presenting How to Conquer Public Speaking Fears.

Knowledge alone is not enough to compete in today’s economy. You must have the communication and leadership skills employers need. Come prepared to enjoy a fun and educational meeting and leave with practical tips you can apply immediately to strengthen your formal and informal presentations. Ken is the author of the book Fearless and Persuasive Speaking and a gifted coach. He has generously offered to come speak to our group, so let’s have a good showing on Tuesday – it’s the last Lunch and Learn of the year!! (Also, I heard at the last monthly meeting from several of your managers – they think this is a GREAT topic for the YPs… so you have no excuse!) As always, please try and RSVP online at http://www.spedallas.org/luncheon.htm.

SPE Dallas is putting together the 1st annual SPE Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament – if you would like to help with this event, please shoot me an email and I’ll get you in touch with the right people. We are looking at having the first meeting THIS Friday, December 3.

We are also getting ready to start planning the 4th annual Softball Tournament — tentative date of April 16, 2011. If you would like to be involved in the planning process and help make this year’s tournament even better than the last. Send me an email if you’re interested.

Also, if you would like to volunteer to be a judge for the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair on Saturday, February 26, 2011, please send me an email, and I’ll get you signed up. This is a fun event to be a part of, and you’re helping the next generation of engineers. Most of the time, you’ll be done by noon.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! As always, my email is always open for ideas, suggestions, and comments.

Thanks!
